We're all about preserving heirloom seed varieties, so when Tamara Hanson from Big Lake, MN said she no longer could continue growing these beauties and wanted someone to continue their legacy, we happily obliged!
The tomato she now calls 'Sweet Brown' was obtained in 2010 from a seed trade from someone in Slovenia, Balkans in Central Europe. The trader called them 'Chinese Purple' but they were not. The plants grew really big so Tamara assumed they were an accidental cross, but saved seed anyway. Since then, the genetics have remained completely the same with plants that seem to have hybrid vigor every year. When other tomatoes are doing nothing, they are producing a lot! Sweet Brown is a small to medium, oval shaped brown or black tomato with green shoulders. It is quite tasty and very prolific. It sometimes gets those cracks that go around laterally but don't break the skin. The plant is a super grower and is great in cooler temperatures.
Honored to have grown out and to be offering these seeds!
