Introduced to the Seed Savers Exchange in 1991 by R. W. Richardson of New York, who originally obtained the seeds through a swap with a West Virginia gardener, Federle tomatoes have a rich and storied history. Also known as Federle's Italian Paste, these tomatoes are an heirloom variety celebrated for their unique characteristics and deep historical roots. The plants are notably productive, bearing an abundance of 7-inch long red paste tomatoes. These tomatoes are distinguished by their rich full flavor and minimal seed content, making them an excellent choice for processing. They are especially good for salsa, thanks to their robust taste and texture
