Details

The Dancing With Smurfs Cherry Tomato is a unique indigo variety that combines bold beauty with exceptional flavor. First introduced commercially in 2012 by New World Seeds and Tubers, this variety was cultivated by Tom Wagner of Everett, Washington, a renowned breeder also credited with creating the famous Green Zebra tomato. It originates from a natural cross made by Jim Myers of Oregon State University, with further development by independent breeders.

The fruits are small, glossy cherry tomatoes that ripen from green to a rich purple with crimson undertones. The deep purple blush, especially pronounced on the shoulders, comes from anthocyanin pigments, a hallmark of the indigo category. The fruits are borne in abundant clusters on vigorous, indeterminate vines that can easily reach 6 feet tall. They offer a wide harvest window: when slightly under-ripe, the flavor is bright and acidic with firmer flesh; as they fully ripen, their crimson tones intensify, the flesh softens, and the flavor deepens into a sweet, juicy profile with classic tomato richness.
