Details
Developed by the Burgess Seed and Plant Company of Galesburg, Michigan, and introduced in 1955, the 'Burgess Mammoth Wonder' is a product of traditional breeding methods. It took eight generations of selective breeding to perfect this variety. Its lineage is quite remarkable, being a cross between the 'Marglobe', 'Bonny Best', and an unidentified pink uniform-color variety. This variety is known for its high yield of perfectly round and blemish-free medium-sized red fruits, typically weighing between 6 to 14 ounces. The largest fruits can even reach up to 15 ounces. A distinctive feature of these tomatoes is the absence of a core or shoulders, coupled with nice, juicy flesh that maintains its integrity when sliced. The assertive flavor of the 'Burgess Mammoth Wonder' is very good, making it an excellent choice for both fresh consumption and culinary uses. This variety's history, impressive breeding, and outstanding characteristics make it a prized choice for tomato enthusiasts and gardeners alike.
