Details
The Aviuri tomato, a striking Russian variety, emerged in the early 1990s and was first introduced in the Seed Savers 1997 Yearbook by Glenn Drowns of the USA. The name 'Aviuri' is a nod to its original breeder. These tomatoes are known for their unique round shape and vibrant red color with eye-catching golden stripes. They weigh an average of 4 to 6 ounces, offering a tasty and firm flesh with a subtle sweet flavor. The semi-indeterminate plants, characterized by their regular foliage, begin to yield above-average harvests starting mid-season. Notably, Aviuri plants are more vigorous than other 'tiger-striped' varieties, reaching about five feet in height. They bear fruit relatively early, around 70 days after planting, with the tomatoes being notably dense, finely textured, and flavorful. These tomatoes are particularly stunning when presented in a mixed basket, adding a splash of color and taste to any collection.
