Details
The Kangaroo Paw Brown Tomato is a unique and flavorful dwarf variety from the innovative Dwarf Tomato Project, developed as part of the "Witty" family (a cross of 'Budai Torpe' and 'Cherokee Green'). Named collaboratively by Patrina Nuske Small, Tim Warren, and Craig LeHoullier, this variety is part of the Kangaroo Paw series, which also includes red, green, and yellow versions, all named after the Australian native flower.
This compact, uniform, and prolific plant features rugose, and regular leaf foliage and reaches a manageable height of 2-3 feet, making it perfect for containers, patios, or garden beds. The fruits are small, round to flattened-globe in shape and weigh between 2 to 6 ounces. When ripe, they boast deep crimson flesh with shiny, chocolate-colored shoulders, giving them a striking appearance.
The Kangaroo Paw Brown Tomato offers a delightful, earthy flavor with a mild sweetness and a hint of tanginess. Its versatility shines in a variety of culinary applications—it’s excellent fresh in salads, for garnishing dishes, or for making salsas. It also holds up well when cooked, making it ideal for stews, sauces, or drying.
