The Galeux d'Eysines, affectionately known as the Peanut Pumpkin, is a distinctive French heirloom pumpkin renowned for its striking appearance and culinary excellence. Its unique pale orange to salmon-pink skin is covered with charming, beige-colored warts reminiscent of peanut shells. These decorative warts form naturally as sugars crystallize beneath the skin, resulting in a captivating, textured surface. Typically weighing between 10–15 pounds, its flattened-globe shape and intricate pattern make the Peanut Pumpkin an exceptional centerpiece for autumn décor.
Beyond its ornamental appeal, the Galeux d'Eysines pumpkin boasts sweet, velvety, deep-orange flesh ideal for roasting, pureeing, and baking. It is highly valued in traditional French cooking, particularly for hearty soups, rich sauces, stews, and flavorful pumpkin pies. The pumpkin's long-vining growth habit yields generous fruits that store exceptionally well, lasting up to six months post-harvest. To ensure the best results, harvest at full maturity when the warts are most pronounced, taking care to avoid cracking. This pumpkin’s combination of visual allure and culinary versatility makes it an enduring favorite among gardeners, chefs, and fall enthusiasts alike.
Non-Isolated. Seeds were taken from a Peanut Pumpkin but may have cross-pollinated with other pumpkins growing around it. It will be a Peanut Pumpkin or a Peanut Pumpkin crossed with a mystery pumpkin!
