Details

5,000-10,000 SHU. Discovered by Matt Ohlendorf in a commercial greenhouse, the Mattapeno is a striking Jalapeno variety known for its variegated leaves and pods. Featuring a mix of green and white or green and yellow patches in patterns such as stripes, spots, or marbling. While variegated pepper plants are often valued more for their ornamental appeal than fruit production, the Mattapeno peppers are edible, offering an earthy flavor with a subtle sweetness, especially when ripe and red. Despite its heat, it's versatile in culinary uses such as salads, rice & beans, and salsa. However, this variety is not fully stable, with the potential for varying shapes and sizes, making it an essential addition to any pepper collector's garden. Non-Isolated.
