Hoary Skullcap provides weeks of blooms in open woodlands in late summer. This native wildflower produces branched clusters of purple/blue flowers. Hoary (or downy) refers to the fuzzy stem of this species. Skullcap comes from a highly valued family of plants, since ancient herbalists found that it provided a number of medicinal benefits. Chinese herbalists, in particular, made extensive use of it in traditional healing methods.
