Details

Brittlebush is a tender perennial desert shrub that blooms with yellow flowers in early spring. It is one of the most common and noticeable wildflowers in the Sonoran Desert. The wood is brittle, hence the name. The flowers and stems have a resin that has been used for medicinal purposes and everything from chewing gum to glue. The stems are rumored to have been used by cowboys as a toothbrush. The sap from the stems was used to make a burnable incense. Brittlebush is very easy to grow and makes a great addition to rock gardens or other low water use areas.
