Hardneck. Rocambole type. A classic hardneck garlic brought to the US from Italy over 100 years ago and loved for its rich and strong and lingering flavor that is not overly spicy. Purple Italian has a delicate and sweet spiciness with a mild, grassy flavor. Slow to warm up, it creeps up on you with a burst of heat and then fades quickly. It's great for salsas and Mediterranean dishes with multiple ingredients to balance out the heat. 8-12 cloves per bulb with violet-purple streaking. A little goes a long way with this flavorful garlic.
