Details

Bloody cranesbill grows in low, gently spreading mounds typically around 1 foot tall, making it ideal for edging beds, borders, or walkways. In late spring to early summer, the mounds are covered with bowl-shaped, bright pinkish-purple blooms. Shearing the plants back by about half after the flowers are done removes the seedheads and tidies the plants, but if you let the seeds form, you are likely to find self-sown seedlings. In fall, the deeply lobed, rich green leaves turn shades of red, sometimes with some yellow or orange. Full sun to partial shade. Perennial; Zones 3 to 9.
